NAVIGATION SKILLS 1

What does it involve?
Get ready for next season with a hands on navigation course and training day run by some of Ireland's most active navigators. The course will involve a brief classroom session in the morning followed by 6 hours of practical navigation and training on the hills around Blessington. Topics to be covered include:
Route Choice - Clever tips on how to find the fastest way around a course
Feature Recognition
Contours
Relief and Slope
Compass Bearings
Estimating Distances
Symbols
Pacing
Decision Making - when not to go for a control

So if you've always wanted to learn to navigate or are looking to improve your existing skills then this is the course for you. Its also a chance to get in a bit of training with a good day out on the hills!! Take control of your own journey and learn to navigate well.

NAVIGATION SKILLS 2

If you have already completed navigation skills 1 or feel that you are ready to jump straight into more advanced navigation instruction then this is the course for you. The nav 2 course will provide a more detailed look at some of the topics covered in the nav 1 course including:

Pacing
Timing
Compass Work

Small Ridges
Corries/Lakes
Open Space Navigation
Rough Terrain
Accurrately Determining Position

As with the nav 1 course, the nav 2 course will be a mixture of classroom based instruction and practical instruction on the hills around Blessington.
